Saving the Xihu is a youth-led collective committed to environmental conservation in Northeast India.
Who We Are
Our flagship Xihu Project focuses on protecting the endangered river dolphin, locally known as "Xihu" in Assamese, which inhabits the Siang and Brahmaputra rivers.
Driven by young students from Assam working across Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, we empower communities, students, and youth to become active stewards of our rivers through education, action, and sustainable practices.
Our Mission
To raise widespread awareness about the Xihu, preserve traditional knowledge, promote sustainable livelihoods, and advocate for the protection of river ecosystems for future generations.

A future where the Xihu swims freely in clean, vibrant rivers, and every community — young and old — cherishes and safeguards this vital part of our natural and cultural heritage.

Ankita Sarmah Bordoloi
Chief Executive Officer (CEO), 22
Leads 'Saving the Xihu', a grassroots campaign that blends storytelling, art, theatre, and research to raise awareness and protect Assam's endangered Gangetic river dolphins through riverside drives and the Xihu Festival. Served as the Climate Champion representing Assam in the 2nd Cohort of National Youth Climate Consortium. Pursuing a Master's in Mass Communication, Journalism and Media Studies at Cotton University.
Syeda Tarrannum Shazadi
Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), 22
Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in English Literature at Cotton University, with a strong interest in storytelling, cultural heritage, environmental conservation, and community engagement. Contributes to Saving the Xihu through content development, awareness campaigns, and outreach initiatives focused on the conservation of the endangered Gangetic river dolphin and the Brahmaputra river ecosystem. Since 2024, has been actively associated with conservation and awareness efforts.
Shahina Jannat
Chief Operating Officer (COO), 21
Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in English Literature at Cotton University and contributing to Saving the Xihu through research, documentation, and content development. Supports the initiative by studying river dolphin conservation, organizing field and secondary research, and helping build a strong knowledge base for conservation efforts. Passionate about research-driven storytelling, she works to connect environmental conservation with community knowledge, culture, and public awareness.
